The Alpinist Gaiters are the ultimate in gaiters for demanding use in wet grass, snow and ice. Over two years of development and field testing went into this product, which is impressive for hunting and should delight every die-hard alpinist. The most important criteria in development were low noise and unconditional quality. The olive-colored outer material of the gaiters is also used in the HYBRID pants. It is a very robust 3.5-layer fabric, in the middle of which is the waterproof, highly breathable 37.5® membrane with its excellent values (water column at least 20,000mm / breathability 20,000gr/sqm²). A soft micro tricot on the inside warms the wearer, while on the outside a fine but robust and slightly roughened polyamide/polyester fabric protects against abrasion. The outer fabric is water-repellent thanks to an improved DWR coating. At the top, the width of the gaiter can be adjusted using a textile strap and a solid plastic buckle; In addition, a rubberized inner waistband prevents the gaiter from slipping. Not at the back, not at the front, but ergonomically placed diagonally at the front and outside, there is a strong YKK® zipper under a wide Velcro strip, which keeps branches etc. away from the zipper and can also be secured at the top and bottom with strong snap fasteners. The large slider of the zipper is in Merkel-typical matt neon orange, so you can find it quickly when putting on the gaiters. Particular attention was paid to the anchoring to the shoe: Hypalon straps adjustable on both sides, triangles made of blasted stainless steel and a silicone-coated stainless steel cable suspended in them maintain contact with the sole of the shoe and are not affected by contact with rock. Vorne on the gaiters there is a strong shoe hook anchored in the solid Nylon® Oxford so that it can be securely locked on the shoelaces. For an optimal fit, the gaiters are marked “R” for right and “L” for left. An additional constriction above the ankle ensures a tight fit on the wearer's leg. Over their entire length, the gaiters are slightly extended at the front following the shinbone and a few centimeters shorter at the back so as not to pinch the back of the knee. In order to guarantee optimal wearing comfort, even for long tours, the gaiter is available in two sizes.
